Rooms and spaces

Welcome to The Barn, a place that you can come and call your home for a wonderful experience here in East Devon.  

We have always lived in our kitchen and so we designed The Barn around this and created one large living area. Enter the front door and you have the kitchen, dining area, sitting room and mezzanine work-space all in one. Big, spacious and light with beams, open stairs, terracotta floor, wood burning stove and period furniture and fittings, we have found it an inspirational space to live, work and play, we are sure you will as well.

The Barn is dog friendly (max 2 per booking)- well behaved and clean dogs are welcome in the living area but strictly downstairs only and not in the bedrooms. There is a large garden for dogs to roam but the boundary is not 100% dog-proof. We have our own dog and free-range hens in the rest of the property so do supervise all dogs, and please, clean up all poo after them.

Behind the main living space is our converted cider press barn housing the main bedrooms and bathroom. It was designed to be a quiet space away from the main living area as a refuge for sleep or study.

Joining the front and back barns is a hallway with ample space for coats, shoes, & boots. There is also an extensive library of games, reading material and DVDs here, more books can be found on the mezzanine and the lower back bedroom.

Elmfield and The Barn are set in ¾ acre of mature gardens part of which is fenced off and separate for your own social distancing, however please feel free to explore and enjoy our garden as well. We have mature trees set in a landscaped wildlife friendly and eco sound garden, the result of 50 years of change from farmland and cider orchards, to pony paddocks, antiques display areas, to what is now a haven for wildlife and relaxation. The Barn has its own patio area and wood burning pizza oven which we can give you instruction on how to use. We have recently installed a large poly tunnel to supplement our greenhouse and will have loads of lovely fresh produce that we can share with you, and if the hens are in the mood, free range eggs as well.
